A reminder to South and Southwest Florida homeowners, renters and business owners: You have until November 29, 2005, to apply for a low-interest SBA loan to cover physical damages from Hurricane Katrina. Victims in Collier, Hendry, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties are eligible to apply. The SBA offers loans up to $200,000 for residential repairs and loans up to $40,000 to replace personal property. Loans to businesses are available up to $1.5 million to repair damage to real estate, equipment and inventory.

- 3rd Quarter 2005 Florida existing home sales: +7% on the sale of 64,978 single-family homes. Median price: $248,600, +31% over a year ago.

- 3rd Quarter 2005 existing home sales (single-family and condos): +635% to an adjusted annual rate of 7.24 million units. Median price: $215,900, +14.7% from a year ago.

- U.S. housing starts: -5.6% in October to an adjusted rate of 2.01 million units.

As reported in the Florida Association of Realtors "Headlines"

Nearly half of all seniors use the internet as part of the homebuying process and most senior homebuyers stay within their home state when they retire, according to "Moving Forward: 50 and Beyond," a natiionwide study commissioned by the Senior Advantage Real Estate Council, an organization through which Realtors may earn the Seniors Real Estate Specialist designation. Among the findings of this survey of consumers age 50 or more who purchased a home within the last six months:

- Of the seniors who used the internet as part of the homebuying process, 61% went online to find a Realtor, 92% to compare prices and 19% to research specific neighborhoods.

- Eighty-two percent moved less than 100 miles from their previous home.

- Of those senior homebuyers who did move to a new state (18%), the No. 1 choice was Florida.
